  • Etymology: "Named after Dame Mary Lucy Cartwright (1900−1998), a mathematician. In 1947, Mary Cartwright became the first woman elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of England for her contributions to mathematics. Cartwright’s theorem takes her name, after she used unconventional methods to solve a mathematical problem."
