  • Etymology: "Named after Annabelle Jane Mary Rankin (1908−1986), an Australian politician and diplomat. Annabelle Rankin was the first woman from Queensland elected to Federal parliament, where she served as a senator (1946−1971). Annabelle Rankin became the first woman to head an Australian diplomatic mission, as High Commissioner to New Zealand (1971−1974)."
