The epithet is evidently based on Latin basi- and lapis (stone) as the stone-like nature of the basal pseudosclerotium is mentioned several times in the protologue. The genitive singular of lapis is lapidis, meaning that the appropriate stem is lapid-, hence the correction from basilapiloides to basilapidoides, under Art 60.1. This correction was made by Saccardo (1895: Sylloge Fungorum 11: 87), soon after the original publication. [T.W. May, 27 May 2021]
