• Text: "According to May and Wood (1997), various other species names have been placed in synonymy with M. crinis-equi, including M. repens Henn. from Cameroon and Alectoria australiensis C. Knight. In addition, van Overeem (1927) placed ‘Cassutha cornea’ Rumph. and Androsaceus ramentaceus Pat. under M. crinis-equi. Without being able to examine the types, and recognizing the number of different taxa revealed from molecular analyses, it is beyond the scope of this study to resolve the identity of those names, but they should not be included as synonyms of M. crinisequi without further study. M. trichorhizus Speg. from Paraguay (Killermann 1928, under M. equicrinis) was another synonym which was recently re-described by Oliveira et al. (2020) and demonstrated to be distinct from M. crinis-equi."
