Amanitaceae
Agaricus phalloides Fr. , legitimate, scientific
Fries, E.M. (1821), Systema Mycologicum 1: 13 [comb. nov.]
  • Comment: Fries mentioned in synonymy "Fung. phalloides Vaill.", referring to Fungus phalloides as introduced in Vaillant's Botanicon Parisiense, published in 1727. This is an invalid name, because it was published prior to the starting-point date of 1753. While it is permissible to cite the authorship of Agaricus phalloides as "(Vaill.) ex Fr." (see Art.46.7) it is not mandatory to do so, and it is not correct to cite it as "Vaill. ex Fr." (see Art. 46.5). Therefore, the name is attributed here to Fries alone (T.W.May - 15 Jan. 2024).
